Every two years Mount Isa hosts a conference aimed at bringing together people with an interest in all aspects of health in remote Australia. Previous events in 2003, 2005 and 2007 were immensely successful with attendees finding the presentations 'focused and relevant' and many going on to indicate their willingness to attend again.
While 2008 would normally be our rest year, Mount Isa is once again hosting the 'Are you remotely interested?' Remote Health Conference so that our 2 year cycle fits between that of the National Rural Health Conference and Kimberley Aboriginal Health Summit which are usually held on odd-years.
As in previous events, the purpose of this year's Conference is to provide a forum for information exchange and debate about issues relevant to remote health with a particular focus on the following themes:
- Clinical practice in remote areas;
- Population Health including Indigenous health;
- Workforce supply, education and training;
- Research outcomes such as innovation in health service delivery.
This year the conference will be held over two separate venues. Plenary sessions are to be held at the Mount Isa Civic Centre in the main auditorium, while concurrent sessions will make use of the Red Earth Hotel ballroom and conference facilities.
Both venues are located on West Street in the Mount Isa CBD, making travel for delegates between sites as easy as crossing the road.
