IT Equipment Racks
Overview
MICRRH ICT infrastructure is primarily based on Windows 2003 Active Directory providing File & Print services, Certificate Service, Workgroup Collaboration based on Windows Exchange Server, Streaming Media Service and Web (IIS) services for some in-house applications. MICRRH IT Unit is also responsible for developing and managing the MICRRH Website. Wintel Desktop and notebook computers are configured with Windows XP and a suit of productivity software such as Microsoft Office, Endnote, Adobe Acrobat and SPSS. Additionally, software specific to medical and research domains are also installed on a pool of 10 desktops which serve the MICRRH's computer lab. A wireless LAN has also been commissioned covering MICRRH Main Building, Yacca Library and Tarabada House.

Two video conferencing systems, one Polycom and the other Tandberg, are installed in two MICRRH conference rooms. Teleconference facilities are also available in these two conference rooms. Smartboard, a fully interactive whiteboard, is also available in one of the conference rooms.




Students can use MICRRH's computer laboratory, fitted with 10 Wintel based desktop computers, document scanner and a shared printer, during working hours. In addition, all student accommodation sites in Mount Isa and Longreach have been installed with computers with Internet access. Students can also connect their notebook computers to the Internet through a secure wireless network. MICRRH is in process of installing and commissioning IT facilities for its new accommodation at Normanton.

MICRRH recently commissioned a Conference Management System for supporting all phases of scholarly conferences, workshops and seminars. MICRRH intends to make this service avaialable to other organisations.

IT unit also maintains other audio visual and communication equipment such as data projectors, digital still & video cameras, document cameras and satellite phones.

MICRRH IT facilties are available primarily to staff and students. Other organizations can also use these facilities on a cost recovery basis, when available. Enquiries can be made by contacting MICRRH Reception on (07) 4745 4500 or by email micrrh@jcu.edu.au.
