Research Awards
Funding was offered for pilots of small research projects relevant to the health needs North West Queensland. It could be used to cover the costs of equipment (including software), maintenance (travel, accommodation, subsistence) or other research related expenses (printing, resource development). Salary support was usually not funded, although consultant or educator’s fees could be considered. The total amount of funds available was $10,000 and it was expected that funding requested for projects would not exceed $5,000.
All current projects must be completed by 31 December 2005.

Primary Health Care Research Fellowships
These fellowships were offered to primary health care providers who were new to research, to conduct small research projects in areas relevant to their clinical practice or primary research interests. The aims of the fellowships were to encourage primary health care providers to build capacity through the development of knowledge and skills in research and evaluation, and develop and foster a research culture. Fellowships could be held for up to one year.
The fellowships could cover salary for one to two sessions per week at an academic level and could attract a clinical loading. Other project costs that could be covered included equipment (including software), maintenance (travel, accommodation, subsistence) or other research related expenses (printing, resource development). It was expected that funding requested for projects would not exceed $15,000.
