Overview
After graduation in Medicine at the Free University in Amsterdam, I worked in a variety of clinical posts as a junior doctor, amongst others as a surgical Senior House Officer on the Isle of Skye in the North of Scotland.
During this period I became interested in all aspects of managing patients spread over large geographical areas with limited resources. Further training in clinical medicine led to a consultants post in anaesthesia
and pain relief and my special interests were the management of cancer patients and patients with long standing pain problems. The move to Australia initiated my retirement from clinical practice enabling to enrol in the joint Masters in Public Health and Business Administration at JCU.
This will underpin my current work for the PHC RED program and give me more insight into the specific problems faced by rural and remote communities in Australia.
