Overview
Born in Cloncurry in 1949, and lived fist 12 years of his life in Blackall, Alpha, Charters Towers and Port Moresby. Spent primary school years at Thornburg College in Charters Towers and then proceeded to boarding School at Brisbane Boys College from Grade 7 until graduating into Medical School at University of Queensland. He obtained his MBBS 1973, and interned at Mater Hospital Brisbane, and Mackay Base Hospital.

In 1975 he entered the RACGP Family Medicine Program and moved to Ingham to join the Ingham Medical Centre in rural procedural General Practice. During his 20 years he actively participated in the education and training of undergraduate medical students and RACGP Trainees in general rural practice.

In 1995 he moved to Townsville to take up a joint position in setting up and managing the North Queensland Rural Division of General Practice, later to become the North West Queensland Primary Health Care, and as a Senior Lecturer in the RACGP Training Program and subsequently, the North Queensland Clinical School of the University of Queensland. In August 1997 he assumed the Directorship of the newly formed Mt Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health, the University Department of Rural Health for Queensland, funded by a Commonwealth initiative through Queensland Health.

He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practice in 1979 whilst in General Practice, and subsequently held many positions within the RACGP, Queensland Faculty Board and North Queensland Sub Faculty. He has held a number of positions on statutory bodies, including the Northern Regional Health Authority, and the Rural Health Advisory Council to the State Minister of Health from 1997 to 2008 currently, including a time as Chair of the Medical Sub-committee of the RHAC.

He has from time to time held Board positions with NWQPHC, RDAQ, RDAA, QRDCU (including Presidency), QRMSA and was the Convenor of the RDAQ Conference in 2005.

He graduated with a Masters in Public Health and Tropical Medicine in 1996, and was awarded a Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine in 1999.
