General Information
Quilpie township is located on a mulga ridge on the western bank Of the Bulloo River, 208km from Charleville.

Climate
Often described as "an Oasis in the Desert" Quilpies weather is intensely hot in summer, exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. The weather is more mild in winter. Although Quilpies average annual rainfall is approximately 300-500mm like many Queensland towns it suffers the occasional flash floods.

Points of interest
Quilpie was officaly declared a town on 29th April 1917 when the railway connecting it to Charleville was completed. Quilpie is well known as having a rich grazing history thanks to the pioneering efforts of families such as the Costello's, Tully's and Duracks. Quilpie is also reknowed as one of the worlds largest producers of "Bolder Opals" a rare form of Opal only found in Queensland.
