General Information
Situated on the edge of a vast pre-historic inland sea, the area was once home to many terrestial dinosaurs as well as marine reptiles. Fossils are to be found in many of the creek beds surrounding the town.

Climate
Hughenden is a hot, dusty little town in north-west Queensland. Its summers are particularly hot, with temperatures always in the very high 30 degrees Celsius and often well over 40 degrees Celsius. Its annual rainfall is only about 250mm. The heaviest falls (known as the 'wet season') occur usually between December and March.

Points of interest
The Flinders Discovery Centre House with a life size Muttaburrasaurs skeletal replica. Gem fossicking and scenic four-wheel driving sites.
