Location
Loacated 148km west of Georgetown, 152km south/east of Normaton on the Savannah Way, 562km west of Cairns and 2,020km north of Brisbane.

General Information
Croydon was first settled by a large pastoral holding in the 1880's. In mid 1880's Gold was discovered and Croydon's population swelled making it the 4th largest town in the colony of Queensland at that time.

Climate
For the Croydon Shire the average maximum temperature is around 36 degrees Celsius in summer and 32 degrees Celsius in winter. Average minimum temperatures range from 24 degrees Celsius in summer to 17 degrees Celsius in winter. The average annual rainfall in the Croydon shire is around 734mm.

Points of interest
The Mine Museum, remeniance of the gold mining days with a resently restored Gold Milling Stamper. Chinese Temple, an archaeological dig site. Golflander Railmotor affectionatly refered to as "the Tin Hare".
