Points of interest
Alpha is branded the "Town of Murals" due to the 27 colourful murals painted on buildings throughout the town. Each mural depicts a different aspect of pioneering and contemporary rural life. Two local artists Alice McLaughin and Benny Fuentes members of the Alpha Cultural Group decided to brighten up the town with their artistic skills after a devastating flood in the 1990's. The Murals pay tribute to this historic event.
Alpha was established in 1884 to serve the railway construction workers. It was nameed after a property that was taken up in 1863. The grazing industry commenced in the 1860's and has allways been the backbone of the local economy, the chief product being cattle. However, during the 1920's, 30's and 40's sheep and wool production had an input to the local economy.
