WRITE IT RIGHT! Workshop, July 2008

Write it Right Workshop

In response to student needs, a repeat of the academic writing and referencing workshop, Write it Right!, will be held on Wednesday 30th July 2008.

Presenters, Stephanie De La Rue (MICRRH Research Manager) and Helen Dries (JCU Nursing Lecturer), have developed a program to equip students, commencing or continuing university study, with skills and knowledge to demystify the academic writing process.

The workshop covers analysis of assignment questions, skills required to access legitimate references through databases, explaining the components of an essay, citing references (in-text and in a reference list) and finally putting it all together in order to present an academic paper in an appropriate and acceptable format.

The workshop is presented in four sessions, starting with an assignment question and linking the processes required to progress to a completed essay, to help students realise that academic writing can be not as daunting as first thought.

The very positive feedback from the inaugural session in February indicated that the workshop was a success and achieved the objective of clarifying processes involved in academic writing.

If you are interested in participating in this workshop, please register your interest with Helen Dries, helen.dries@jcu.edu.au or Stephanie De la Rue, stephanie.delarue@jcu.edu.au or contact MICRRH Reception on (07)47454500.
