MICRRH Strategic Plan Meeting 29 & 30th May 2006

A planning sssion in progress.
A planning session in progress.

With a sense of excitement the MICRRH team commenced their strategic planning activities for 2006. We believe we are well placed to move into new and challenging areas of rural and remote health education and research

Reviewing the Centre's previous Strategic Plan reconfirmed our organizational values which were previously expressed as:
  • Mutual Respect - tolerance, acceptance and cultural safety
  • Knowledge - Innovation, challenging the norms, working to our strengths and differences
  • Integrity - Accountability, responsibility
  • Enthusiasm - Passion and positivity
  • Nurturing - Supportive, teamwork

With Darryl Krook (CPEM Consulting Group) as our intrepid facilitator and with the valuable input of Pam Stronach and David Lindsay from JCU Townsville, staff of MICRRH convened a 2 day workshop aimed at developing a new strategic plan for our organization. The resulting plan was to incorporate the objectives of JCU, the JCU Faculty of Medicine Health and Molecular Science, and the national UDRH program.

Addressing the concerns of staff and future direction of the Centre caused some determined thinking and heartfelt debate. The staff was divided into smaller working groups and systematically worked their way through a structured format designed to highlight the positives and negatives, issues and challenges of the Centre's workings. Each group defined and prioritized what they saw as the goals and objectives of the Centre. The majority of areas identified were common across all groups.

This proved to be a great team building exercise. The new faces with fresh ideas combining with the wisdom of the 'old guard' to generate a document that we all believe will encompass the soul of MICRRH as expressed in our Vision Statement:

"Walking together to build capacity and leadership in remote and Indigenous health through community engagement, education and research"
