The launch of the Rural and Remote Paramedic Practice (RRPP) curriculum

Hon Minister of Emergency Services launching the program
“...a new and exciting ground for Queensland Ambulance Service...”

The launch of the Rural and Remote Paramedic Practice (RRPP) curriculum is another landmark in MICRRH's journey towards the development of an effective rural and remote health workforce. This initiative between JCU MICRRH, Queensland Emergency Services and Queensland Health's Workforce Development Unit, provides a rational use of an under-utilized yet highly skilled component of the rural and remote community.

As the initial project of its kind in Australia, the RRPP has provoked interest in other states and overseas. The future of such a project has implications for the broader context across sectors in government which may change attitudes and approaches for the coming decades. It may in future provide an articulated career stream towards a mid level practitioner, included within the Primary Health Care team, and as integral a member in rural and remote PHC as the doctor, nurse and Indigenous Health Worker, bridging some of the gaps in skills and numbers that now exist. This is an exciting development with implications for rural and remote communities in rural and remote Australia and the world.
