Vague & Indecent - Remote Health Conference, 26-28 August 2005

Conference Cocktail party continued into the night...
'Vague and Indecent' may have been the title for this years MICRRH Remote Health Conference, but there was little evidence of this when 76 enthusiastic people arrived in Mount Isa on August 26, 2005 for a two day program. Conference organizers were keen to continue the good vibes felt at the 'Naked and Clueless' conference several years ago, and registrants were encouraged to work hard and party hard. Suffice to say that the physician assistant, allied health practitioners, doctors, nurses, academics, researchers, and medical students from around Queensland, from other parts of the country and overseas all put in the required effort to achieve these objectives.

The conference in session.
Registrants generally found the formal program of key note speakers, presentations, workshops and posters to be useful and of a high standard. There was no doubt that people appreciated the opportunity to network and pick up on the latest developments in workforce and service innovations, to hear about clinical work in remote areas and to know more current research work. The medical students took the opportunity to explore the possibilities of entering a career in remote health. For others the conference offered the chance to see Mount Isa and its surroundings. Details of the program can be seen by going to the '2005 Conference website'.
The evaluation of the conference has suggested some directions to explore in future programs. These include a greater indigenous presence and encouragement for more allied health and nurses to attend. Keep watching this website for news of the 2007 MICRRH Remote Health Conference.
