Rural & Remote Road Safety Study data collection with local haulage companies

The last community event for the Mount Isa branch of the Rural and Remote Road Safety study begins in July, with the delivery of
mail-back questionnaire kits designed for two local haulage companies.
While conducting data collection by the roadside has proved fruitful in accessing the attitudes of many motorists, it is more difficult for heavy vehicle drivers to stop and devote time to the surveys, as they are on schedules or cannot pull over safely. In efforts to gather the opinions and driving experiences of heavy vehicle operators. Rural and Remote Road Safety Study teamed up with Mitchell East in Cloncurry and one other local haulage company to give their drivers the opportunity to have their say.
Drivers in these companies have been given mail back surveys, similar to the ones used for Roadside Control data collection that has been taking place along the highways and local streets of Mount Isa since the end of 2004. This way, drivers can complete the surveys in their breaks and their valuable experiences can be included in the study.
We would like to thank both companies for their support of the Rural and Remote Road Safety Study, and recognise their efforts at improving road safety.
