NAIDOC Week - Mount Isa Flag Raising Ceremony

Flag raising ceremonies mark the beginning of NAIDOC celebrations across Australia. NAIDOC events are intended to highlight the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
This years theme is "Respect the Past - Believe in the Future". Several speakers spoke about the history of NAIDOC and the 2006 theme at the Mount Isa Flag Raising Ceremony. MICRRH participated in the flag raising event hosting the morning tea.
The Mount Isa NAIDOC Committee in conjunction with local aboriginal organisations are holding various events throughout this week 02 July - 09 July. Did You Know? NAIDOC originally stood for 'National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee'. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has become the name of the week itself.
