2007 Australian Safer Communities Awards highly Commends Rural & Remote Paramedic Program

Assoc. Prof. Dennis Pashen and Arthur OBiren with Hon Robert McClelland, Attorney General.
The Queensland Ambulance Service Rural & Remote Paramedic Program (QAS-RRPP) has been designed to meet the health care needs of people residing in rural, remote
and isolated communities across Queensland.
The program's intent is to expand the scope of clinical practice of rural & remote paramedics to meet the health care needs of targeted communities without losing the benefits of a paramedic's capacity to respond to emergencies.
The curriculum was developed collaboratively, between QAS, Queensland Health and Mount Isa Centre for Rural & Remote Health, James Cook University.
The Graduate Certificate program commenced in Queensland in November 2006 and a total of 49 students are currently enrolled and progressing through the program.
The Australian Safer Communities Awards are sponsored by Emergency Management Australia (EMA) in conjunction with the States and Territories, to recognize best practice and innovation by organisations and individuals that help to build safer communities across Australia.
