Mount Isa Centre for Rural & Remote Health (MICRRH) also coordinates medical, nursing and allied health (including pharmacy) student placements within the Mount Isa Health District Service, as detailed below.




Student Placements
If you are considering a placement within the Mt Isa Health District Service, your first point of contact will be a Student Placement Coordinator. Currently
Louis Peachey fills the role of the Placement Coordintor for Medicine and Pharmacy while Bev Black the role of the Placement Coodinator for Nursing.

Student Placement Coordinator will be able to provide you with information such as:
  • Clinical and community attachment opportunities within the district.
  • MICRRH Student Accommodation Facilities
  • Education opportunities
  • Resources that are availabe


Student Orientation and Ongoing Support
The Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health is committed to providing appropriate orientation to all students on placement within the district. Nursing students that are doing community placements may not be fully orientated, as they will receive their own orientation with their community preceptor. The orientation includes:
  • MICRRH facility tour
  • Yacca Library tour
  • Hospital site tour
  • Clinical Placement Details distributed
  • Cultural Awareness (Medicine & Allied Health disciplines inclusive)
  • Skills Stations (Medicine & Allied Health disciplines inclusive)
  • Delivery to clinical placements (Nursing)
Ongoing contact and support is provided to all students whilst on clinical practicum including:
  • Debriefing sessions are conducted once a week for all nursing students.
  • Support offered by the Nursing Student Attachment Coordinator with student inquiries regarding University policy.
  • Advice on culturally sensitive issues.
